FDA Approves Promising Weight Loss Drug
According to Fox5, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has signed off on a new weight loss drug. It promises to help obese Americans who are also suffering from weight-related conditions. According to the FDA, Wegovy by Novo Nordisk can help shed pounds in overweight people with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol. It’s administered through an at-home shot.
FDA spokesman Dr. John Sharrett says, “The FDA remains committed to facilitating the development and approval of additional safe and effective therapies for adults with obesity or overweight.” The drug works by mimicking a gut hormone that controls the regulation of appetite and food intake. It makes people feel full when they’re eating. It is the first weight loss product approved by the FDA since 2014.
