Barbie vs. Oppenheimer: Which Is North Carolina More Excited to See?
It’s a huge topic of discussion these days. With two highly anticipated movies hitting theaters this weekend- Barbie and Oppenheimer- which one will you be seeing in North Carolina this weekend? Or perhaps both. The Barbie marketing team has been hard at work, doing collaborations with seemingly every brand on planet Earth. To the point where it’s almost over saturation for this Barbie movie, geared not at typical Barbie fans, but adults. On the other hand, Oppenheimer Christopher Nolan’s film is based on the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was a physicist who played a major role in developing the first nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project.
Barbie vs. Oppenheimer in North Carolina
The movies couldn’t be more of a polar opposite. And I know which of the two I would be more likely to see this weekend and ever. Hands down Barbie. Though I’ll be honest I’m probably not going to see it opening weekend unless it rains or something keeps me out of the pool. Would it be fun to dress up and go? Absolutely? But is that enough for me to not wait for the streaming option? Eh that remains to be seen. But according to data provided to me by BetCarolina, in the Battle of Barbie vs. Oppenheimer North Carolina is aligning with me and choosing Barbie. They compared the search volume of each film in North Carolina and Barbie had 6.7 times more searches than Oppenheimer. Leading to the easy conclusion that the feel-good film is of more interest to North Carolinians.
Oppenheimer is already impressing critics and can appeal to both a male and female demographic. It has a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and I wouldn’t be shocked to see it getting buzz for awards season. Barbie brings to the director Greta Gerwig, who is no stranger to award-winning films either. Barbie is generating Oscar buzz as well. There is also the all-star cast including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, and Will Farrell. And Barbie’s resurgence as a cultural phenomenon amongst a demographic that hadn’t paid the dolls a lot of attention in recent years. It’s going to be a battle of the box office for sure. One we haven’t seen this tight in a while. Are you going to see either film this weekend? View the trailers for both movies below. Read more about BetCarolina’s data and thoughts on the films here.
