Fed Ex laying off dozens in North Carolina. And there is a reason for that. Nearly 70 people will be out of a job at its Catawba County facility. As a matter of fact that site will be closing according to the Charlotte Observer.

David Westrick is the spokesperson for the company. And says FedEx closed its Conover facility due to “business needs”. The company filed the changes on June 12 to the North Carolina Department of Commerce. The FedEx Conover facility is located at 1228 Commerce Street. Those affected by the changes are reportedly 3 managers and 66 couriers.
Some workers at that facility will keep their jobs but have to move to a different location. Some people will reportedly get the offer of relocation. Some will be offered severance or leave of absence and may be able to explore other jobs within the company.
Not The Only Company In Catawba County Laying Off Workers
People affected by the changes have been notified according to charlotteobserver.com. Impacted workers are not part of a union. And this location is not the only one in Catawba County cutting jobs. FedEx is actually the third location. Others are HNI Workplace furnishings, 221 people were affected by layoffs within that company at its Hickory location. All in all, nearly 400 people in Catawba County have been affected by layoffs in the past few months.
Memphis based FedEx is still at multi billion dollar business. In 2023 they reportedly generated 90.2 billion in revenue. But that was a 4% decrease from the year before. The company has over a dozen major facilities still, including one in Greensboro that employs a reported 530,000 people.
