These North Carolina Hospitals Ranked Among The Best In The Nation
The Top Hospitals Awards have been announced and the Tar Heel State is home to several. These North Carolina hospitals ranked among the best in the nation. According to the Charlotte Observer, 150 institutions were named as top hospitals and surgery centers in the United States. Nine in the Charlotte, North Carolina area made the list.
The Leapfrog group is a national nonprofit group that focuses on health care safety and quality. The awards were given in several categories including children’s hospitals, teaching hospitals and rural hospitals. These were honored and recognized based on patient safety. That includes infection rates, prevention of errors and surgical safety according to our source, The Charlotte Observer.

Novant Health Matthews Medical Center and Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
Honored for being top teaching hospitals in North Carolina. Atrium Health Pineville made the list as well as Carolinas Medical Center and Novant Health Hunstersville Medical Center. Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center was also awarded as a top teaching hospital in North Carolina.
One of the toughest awards in the industry to earn is top ambulatory surgery centers. This according to Leah Binder, CEO of The Leapfrog Group. She tells the Charlotte Observer,“This recognition is one of the toughest awards in the industry to earn, so the hospitals and ASCs that receive this award have demonstrated an incredible commitment to patient safety and their community,”.
Novant Health Ballantyne Surgery Center is one of the top ambulatory surgery centers in North Carolina. Novant Health Huntersville Outpatient surgery received the honor as well.
