Carolina Panthers Name Andy Dalton As Starting QB, Bryce Young Benched
After another tough loss on Sunday, the Carolina Panthers are making some changes. The Carolina Panthers have made the decision to bench Bryce Young and have named Andy Dalton as the new starting quarterback.
The former first-overall pick was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the 2023 NFL draft. After a 215 record for his first season, Panther fans were beginning to doubt the young quarterback. This season, the Panthers lost their first two games and now the team has decided to make the switch. ESPN reported that the switch was officially made by Coach Dave Canales.
“Andy gives us our best chance moving forward,” said Canales. Sunday, Young had one of his worst games with a Panthers loss of 26-3. Young passed for only 84 yards, tied for the fourth fewest in team history for a quarterback with at least 25 pass attempts. The game led to many speculating if Young was the right pick for the team as a first round draft pick. It seems the front office heard loud and clear and decisions were made during team meetings on Monday.
“This is something after I watched the film,” said Canales. “I looked at it, had a thought and started on talking to the guys that we make decisions with. Certainly a lot of parties involved there, and ultimately this comes on me. My No. 1 responsibility is to help the Panthers win, and so this move puts us in the best chance to do that.”
The Panthers are off to an 0-2 start to the 2024 season and many are hoping that this switch leads to a change moving forward. Dalton, 36, last started for the Panthers in Week 3 of the 2023 season and had over 300 yards plus two touchdowns. Many are hoping that this change will lead to the Panthers first win of the season. The team will face the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday. Let’s see what happens now that the switch has been made!
