This Charming South Carolina City Named To Top 20 Most Beautiful Cities In The World

When folks picture most beautiful cities in the U.S., it's not hard to imagine quite a few of the beautifully historic spots in the South making the list.  However, expand that parameter to 'the world,' and the competition is stiff.  But, an online publication named the charming South Carolina city of Charleston to the top 20 most beautiful cities in the world list. Recently, published their list of the 20 most beautiful cities in the world.  And, as you might imagine, faraway destinations such as Sydney, Austrailia, Cape Town, South Africa and Kyoto, Japan grabbed the spotlight.  That's some pretty stiff competition, right?  Then, out of the clouds popping up at number 15 was Charleston, South Carolina. The publication pointed out what many of us already knew about Charleston.  The South Carolina favorite scores high in the charm category.  Some of the high points the article referred to include the beauty of the city itself with its cobblestones, churches and stunning homes.  And, of course, history buffs delight in the storied past of the city.  But, as a lover of great cuisine, I am blown away with the delicious food every time I visit.  I had my first ever shrimp and grits in Charleston nearly 30 years ago on an anniversary trip.  And, I was hooked from the first bite. In fact, visitors can even schedule a 'Secret Food Tour' of the French Quarter.  The website boasts of a 5 star rated tour transporting guests on a food adventure with guides who share stories of the food the city is famous for.  And, obviously, there's sampling!  However, plan ahead as these tours are popular and book quickly. For dining, the options are huge.  Always receiving rave reviews are hot spots Peninsula Grill, Halls Chophouse and Slightly North of Broad.  I personally love Slightly North of Broad.  But, there's nearly unlimited choices.  And, I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed Burwell's Stonefire Grill on N. Market St. Also, Charleston provides many opportunities for tours of the city either on foot or by horse drawn carriage.  Visit Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens, the South Carolina Aquarium and Fort Sumter National Monument.  See one of the many visitor websites to help plan your visit.  And, to browse the complete list of the most beautiful cities in the world see thefrugalexpat full article.
