Play Ball: Charlotte Knights Release 2021 Schedule
The summer of 2020 did not feel complete for a lot of reasons. One of them was the lack of Minor League Baseball, but it’s coming back in 2021. Yes, there will be Charlotte Knights baseball this year.
The team will begin its season on April 6th in Florida against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, the new Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins. After six games in Jacksonville, the Knights will host their home opener on April 13th against the Durham Bulls. The Knights will play 70 home games at Truist Field (formerly BB&T Ballpark) over the course of their 142-game season, and that includes a homestand against the Norfolk Tides over the 4th of July weekend.
While the Charlotte Knights remain the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, the return of Minor League Baseball comes with a few changes. The International League no longer exists. The Knights now play in the new Southeast Division of the Triple-A East League. As a result, they’ll play fewer teams this season and most of the series will now be six games instead of the three- or four-game series of the past. Games will be played on Tuesdays through Sundays with all teams using Mondays as their off days.
Good news! Fans will be allowed to attend games at Truist Field. However, under current North Carolina COVID-19 restrictions, the Knights will only be able to host up to 7% of their overall capacity. Hopefully, that number can increase as the season progresses. Season ticket holders have first priority for admission. The team will available when tickets will be available for partial season ticket packages, hospitality areas, groups, and individual games.
The changes might bother some people. Not me. I’m just glad the Charlotte Knights will be playing again. And I’m really looking forward to watching them live at Truist Field with that spectacular view of the uptown skyline. I can almost smell the hot dogs.
