Watch: An Alligator Gets In Family Home Through Dog Door
My parents had a dog door on our glass porch when my dog was alive. It did have a way to close it off, but I always wondered why a squirrel or other animal didn’t just see what it was and try to come into the house. Thankfully that situation was avoided. I always say I don’t like animals I’m not expecting to see. And that would most certainly include a squirrel in the house. We’ve all seen Christmas Vacation, that situation doesn’t end well. But even still I’m surprised that isn’t a more common issue. But in the most “how the heck did this not happen in Florida way”, a family in Louisiana did get a visitor. It was a 5-foot-long alligator that decided to make its way into the family home through the dog door. An alligator. Oh hell no!
The video below of the gator being wrangled and removed from the home was shared by WFLA News Channel 8 in Florida. They report that the owners awoke and heard a commotion. Their first thought was that someone was in the home, so they grabbed a gun. They then quickly realized the intruder was not a human but a reptile. Police and the Fish and Wildlife Department responded and were able to remove the alligator who entered through the dog door.
Watch the video below to see how it went down.
A new fear has been unlocked. No, to my knowledge there are no alligators anywhere near where I live. No, I don’t have a dog or a dog door. Here’s to hoping I never see a gator outside of a zoo, aquarium, or other controlled environment. If you have a dog door, it may be time to invest in one of the ones that connect to the dog’s collar and is only able to open for them. Safety first.
