Study Finds The Cost Of Attending A Charlotte Hornets Game Is The Cheapest In The NBA (But Is That A Good Thing?)

Going to professional sporting events can be expensive and even break the bank. Especially if you are taking the family. Factoring in tickets, parking, and the inevitable drink and/or snack (even if you eat beforehand), you can be looking at hundreds of dollars by the time you leave the game. And that price tag feels even higher when your team doesn’t win. If you don’t live in the city where the team plays, you could be looking at a hotel stay and travel costs as well. Needless to say it can be a big financial and time investment to decide to attend. But I have (perhaps?) good news for basketball fans in the Carolinas. A new study has found that the cost of attending a Charlotte Hornets game is the cheapest in the NBA.

And yes that is fantastic news if you are looking to take in a game. But is that also a reflection of the product being put on the court? I’m a fairly big believer in you get what you pay for. Though unfortunately, you can’t pay more to see a win. In college athletics, you can pay more to increase your chances of seeing a win, but that’s another story (and rant) for another day.

So back to this study. This research was provided to us by USBettingReport. They created what they call the “Fan Cost Index”. The Fan Cost Index simply put “evaluates the total cost of taking a family of four to a sporting event”. This is based on the average price of four tickets, two small draft beers, four small soft drinks, four regular-size hot dogs, parking for one hour, two game programs, and the two least-expensive, adult-size adjustable caps. And they found that the average cost of taking a family of four to see the Charlotte Hornets is $237.55. And yes, that is expensive. But knock off those hats and programs and you’re under $200 easily. You won’t go to a theme park, and could barely go to the movies for that cost.

Obviously supply and demand factor into this. If the Hornets were better, tickets would sell out and the team wouldn’t need to do ticket deals and other incentives to get fans in the door. So while it’s good for families that the cost of attending a Charlotte Hornets game is the cheapest in the NBA, it would be nice if the team was more of a contender.

There is no way around it, it is HOT in the Carolinas this summer. It was in the mid-90s all last week and will be there the rest of this week as well. There are only so many things you can do inside to entertain yourself or your kids and let’s face it it’s just too miserable to be outside. At this temperature, I can’t even lay out at the pool, it’s get in the water of bust. And forget that afternoon rail trail walk or outdoor dining. So if you’re like me and don’t want to sit at home, but instead want to beat the heat this is the list for you. I’ve scoured the internet for 26 indoor activities for you to have fun while staying cool this summer in Charlotte.

All of these activities have one main thing in common. And that one thing is air conditioning. Because when it’s 95 degrees outside nothing else will cut it! Indoors is also helpful when that oh-so-common summer storm pops up. So no getting wet (unless by choice) here.

On this list you’ll find a variety of activities some for kids and adults alike, others geared more towards just adults. Tap into your creative side, your adventurous side, or just relax and enjoy. Many offer the chance to have a cold drink but aren’t drinking-focused. Instead, you’ll find indoor activities in Charlotte that are sure to entertain and break up the monotony that the summer heat can often bring.
